Meet Our Team!

Mike Muñoz; B.S., MT-BC, DIR-C - Founder/CEO & Clinical Director

Mike founded Once Upon A Song in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. His no-quit, dreamers mindset helped him to push through the challenges that he faced during this difficult time and create something beautiful out of it. Mike studied Music Therapy at Molloy College where he earned his B.S. degree and became board-certified as a music therapist. He later earned his certification as a DIR-Floortime practitioner through ICDL. Mike has worked in many different populations from private clinics to hospitals like Bellevue, to child and adolescent inpatient psychiatry, but has spent most of his career helping children and individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders work their way up the developmental ladder. Mike has been a part of international research studies on Autism such as the “Time-A” study, and has practiced Music Therapy abroad in London at the Nordoff-Robins clinic (where he also trained), at New Horizons Day Clinic, and in Portugal. He has also presented his work at national conferences and continues to strive to make the world a better place through music!

Gaby Espinal-Santiago; M.S., MT-BC - Board-Certified Music Therapist

Gaby is a board-certified music therapist who centers her work on meeting the needs of the people she serves in music. Her approach focuses on relationship-based interventions that strengthen the therapeutic relationship between her and the people she works with while encouraging people to live their authentic selves in everyday life. Gaby studied music therapy at Molloy University, earning her a B.S. and M.S. degree in music therapy. She later gained her limited permit to uphold a License in Creative Arts Therapy in New York to expand her clinical work within music psychotherapy. Gaby has experience working with people of all ages in school, community, and private practice settings, primarily with the neurodiverse community, in individual and group sessions (in-person and via telehealth). Her experience also consists of research and publications centering on therapeutic relationships in music therapy, as seen in her work in Molloy University’s “Music and the Mind Study” funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and her co-publication of the book chapter, “Developing Adaptability and Bridging Authentic Relationships in Entry-Level Music Therapy Training” found in Portraits of Everyday Practice published by Routledge Taylor & Francis Group. Gaby’s work is also rooted in community and resource-oriented work through fundraising-concert planning and supervising music therapy students through Molloy University’s Community Care Mobile Clinic, a mobile clinic serving marginalized communities in Nassau and Suffolk counties, all funded by the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation Grant. Gaby brings the same passion and excitement in connecting and celebrating everyone she works with through her position at Once Upon a Song!
