Building a community of lifelong dreamers!
Here at Once Upon A Song, we are committed to the success of everyone we work with. That’s why we work in a relationship-based model, meeting every individual at their developmental level. We are passionate about helping others through music and play, and bring this enthusiasm into every session!
We value importance of relationships in our work. We believe that the relationship between the therapist and client, or student and teacher, is the most important factor in the therapeutic/educational process and is the fuel for growth and development. It is for this reason that we allow time for that relationship to develop before making any direct assessments of the individuals “performance”, deploying patience and empathy to build trust and establish a rapport. We do not believe in using behavioral techniques to elicit complacency and obedience, but rather use the trust in our relationship to guide the therapeutic/learning process, allowing the child to explore freely so that they find what THEY are interested in, without placing expectations upon them.
Music Therapy is a psychodynamic therapy in the creative arts therapy field, wherein improvised musical experiences are facilitated by a credentialed professional, in order to facilitate growth and development in a client. That client can be any age, at any stage of development, with any range of needs. If working with a child with Autism, for example, the music therapist would work with the child on a range of socioemotional capacities, building social skills, communicative skills, as well as sensory and emotional self/co-regulation.
